Welcome.  Step this way please.  Be careful, it's dark in here.

That's really the whole idea behind Afraid of the Dark.  We love a good scare, but with the amount of media out there it's getting harder and harder to sift through the mass of what's available and find that little gem, that thing to frighten you or disturb you, to gross you out and fuck you up.  The aim here is to help you find those things.  We'll mostly be covering films, but we'll also look at horror in other media; books, comics, TV, wherever we can find fear we'll write about - and hopefully eventually talk about - it.

Over the next few weeks and months we're hoping to grow Afraid of the Dark into a place you can visit every day for your horror needs.  As well as regular reviews we'll have features by both staff writers and guests.  Among these features we'll be covering underseen and underrated genre films in Lost Horrors and giving you personal recollections and recommendations in Intro to Horror, which will eventually cover every subgenre you can think of.  We'll also be looking at long running horror series in Franchise Monster (the first entry, on the Final Destination films, is coming soon) and rounding up the week's horror news in Severed Headlines.  We're also hoping, in the near future, to bring you an Afraid of the Dark podcast (that's if we can make Editor Steve's voice understandable).
